Description
The Construction Skilled Labourer works directly with Prime Projects’ Construction Supervisors and Project Managers to support the safe, efficient, and high-quality delivery of commercial interior construction projects.
The role includes site preparation, construction cleanup, material handling, protection of finished surfaces, installation work, minor repairs, and general assistance to site supervisors and trades. The successful candidate will be reliable, safety-conscious, professional, and willing to perform a wide variety of tasks as project needs change.
This is a full-time position based on a 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday and a work day of 7:00 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. allowing a lunch break of ½ hour between noon and 12:30 p.m. Hours of work are subject to change with reasonable notice based on business requirements.
This is an hourly paid position. Hours to be paid in accordance with Alberta construction labour law.
All work occurs in enclosed interiors spaces. The majority of work is located in downtown Calgary in commercial buildings.
You are required to provide your own transportation to and from work. Parking will not be provided.
You are required to provide your own construction safety boots. Shirts and Hard hats will be provided.
You will be required to undergo a PPL safety orientation prior to commencement of employment. Prime Projects Ltd will provide this orientation.
Statutory holidays as determined by the Province of Alberta are observed and the office will close during such days.
The work environment will be on various project sites.
You are required to perform in accordance with the policy and procedures manual which is subject to reasonable change from time to time.

Pre-requisites
The ideal candidate will have:
Previous experience in commercial construction, tenant improvements, renovations, carpentry, or a related skilled labour position.
Practical knowledge of common construction materials, tools, and work practices.
Experience safely operating hand tools and basic power tools.
The ability to accurately measure, mark, cut, fasten, assemble, and install basic construction components.
Strong attention to detail and a commitment to quality workmanship.
The ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
A professional attitude, honesty, dependability, and strong work ethic.
The ability to work independently and collaboratively with supervisors, project managers, and subcontractors.
Good time-management and organizational skills.
A commitment to maintaining clean, orderly, and safe project sites.
Reliable transportation and the ability to report to different project locations.
Valid safety certifications, including CSTS and WHMIS, are considered assets.
A valid Class 5 driver's licence is considered an asset
The successful candidate must be able to safely perform the essential duties of the position, with reasonable accommodation where required. Regular activities may include:
Standing, walking, bending, kneeling, crouching, reaching, and climbing stairs or ladders.
Lifting, carrying, pushing, and moving construction materials and equipment.
Working in active commercial construction and renovation environments.
Working around dust, noise, tools, equipment, and changing site conditions.
Wearing required personal protective equipment for the duration of assigned work.
Duties & Responsibilities
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Perform general site labour and daily construction cleanup.
Maintain clean, organized, and professional project sites.
Receive, unload, move, organize, and distribute construction materials and equipment.
Assist with site setup, temporary protection, dust-control measures, hoarding, and signage
Protect existing and completed finishes, including flooring, walls, millwork, doors, and fixtures.
Complete minor demolition and removal work as directed.
Install wood blocking, backing, and other supports required for millwork, fixtures, accessories, and wall-mounted equipment.
Assist with the installation, adjustment, and replacement of doors, frames, hardware, shelving, accessories, and miscellaneous building components.
Complete minor drywall, patching, caulking, touch-up, repair, and deficiency work within the employee’s abilities and training.
Assist subcontractors and site supervisors with material movement, access, protection, and coordination activities.
Support project turnover by removing temporary protection, addressing deficiencies, and preparing spaces for client occupancy.
Safely operate hand tools and company-supplied power tools for approved tasks.
Inspect, clean, secure, and properly maintain tools and equipment assigned to the employee.
Immediately report damaged equipment, unsafe conditions, incidents, injuries, and near misses.
Follow Prime Projects’ health and safety program, site-specific rules, safe work procedures, and supervisor instructions.
Use required personal protective equipment and maintain it in good condition.
Work respectfully and professionally around clients, consultants, subcontractors, building occupants, and members of the public.
Complete other reasonable construction and site-support duties assigned by a Construction Supervisor or Project Manager.
